CHARB ARTS STUDIOS IS A SAFE AND BRAVE SPACE.
What do you mean by safe space?
We welcome all who respect and follow our code of conduct. Our studio is a safe space for those who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Colour (BIPOC) as well as 2SLGBTQIA+ community members and people with disabilities.
What do you mean by brave space?
We often associate safety with comfort. At Charb Arts we encourage and support students in respectfully asking questions and looking outside of their own lived experience. Learning about how art is practiced in different cultures both traditionally and contemporarily enriches not only our lives as artists but as people.
EQUITY & ANTI-OPPRESSION AT CAS
ANTI-OPPRESSION CODE OF CONDUCT
Solidarity is based on the principle that all members are equal and deserve mutual respect and understanding. As a community, mutual respect, cooperation, and understanding are our goals.
We should neither condone nor tolerate behaviour that undermines the dignity or self-esteem of any individual or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment. It is our collective responsibility to create an inclusive space for discussion and dialogue. All forms of discrimination and harassment will not be tolerated, nor will hate speech rooted in, but not limited to racism, sexism, misogyny, classism, ableism, homophobia, and/or transphobia. Additionally, body shaming of any kind is not tolerated at our studio.
We all have an obligation to ensure that Charb Arts is an open and inclusive space, free of hate. There is zero tolerance for any form of oppressive behaviour, whether micro or macro, from anyone in our community. This includes students, staff, faculty, and guests.
Any misconduct will be addressed immediately in a manner that centres the individual(s) impacted.

We are currently drafting and reviewing a list of actionable items to commit to as a safe community space.
Have a suggestion? Share it with us!
We can’t promise to always get it right or have all the answers, but at Charb Arts we are committed to uplifting, supporting, and centring marginalized voices. It is important that we each do our part in gifting future generations with the tools to facilitate healing and reconciliation.
Remember: speak up, not over.
